New extropy - October 13th
September 26, 2009 on 8:55 am | In philosophy, futurism, music, extropy | No CommentsI’m excited to announce that the new extropy record is finished. It’s my best work to date. I feel like I’ve managed to create something powerful here, something greater than myself… and as an artist it has exceeded my greatest expectations.
I’m torn between the belief that great art is beyond the commercial, and the feeling that our era of abundant “free” music and instant gratification has devalued it’s art to the point that it is almost worthless to most people. I have no illusions that this work is anything more than a labor of love. Nevertheless I want to share it in a way that does not reduce it’s value to zero. For this reason I am not going to give it away as a free download. I’m not intending to profit from this, only to insure that the listener must put forth some effort to “earn” the experience, even if it is a token amount. If this reduces the scope of it’s appreciation, so be it. I’ve put every part of myself into it’s creation and consider it a fair exchange.
The physical release will be limited to 20 copies, some of which will be allocated to close friends and family who have encouraged and supported me over the years. The remaining quantity will be available for $20 (incl. shipping within the US). The package is hand made, & hand embossed, with 2 Cds, and 2 12pg. booklets in an outer sleeve.
The initial digital release will be available as 2 .zip archives of full resolution audio files that can be burned to CD or converted to mp3/m4A/FLAC/or whatever format you prefer. I’m asking for a paypal donation of $5 (but you can donate more if you feel it’s warranted). You can barely get a sandwich for $5 anymore - so if you feel comfortable paying $5 for food that will be sewage in 24 hours, I hope you can swing it for art that will last forever.
The worldwide digital release will be later this year, but it will be available through Amazon, iTunes, and everywhere else once it makes it through the various set-up processes.
I’ll post an update on the blog here with instructions for ordering once the new website is up and everything is ready to go.
Again, thanks to all of you who have followed and supported extropy over the years. We are fortunate to have a small group of dedicated fans and we love you all. cheers.

September 7, 2009 on 9:15 am | In futurism, music, extropy | No CommentsI came really close to finishing up the new record this weekend, but in the end I decided to scrap the vocals on “asymptote” for a minor re-write. Sometimes my perfectionism pisses me off. Actually it’s ironic that this would be the last track to complete… the last line is “the closer I seem, the further I appear”. Anyway, it’s almost there. I did spend several hours getting the sound just right for “swim” and since the release date is only a few short weeks away (October 13th) I thought it would be alright to drop one more track out there. Close your eyes and float in the ocean of a million years…
swim
relax your mind
and let it in
all that came before
will be again
in a dreaming moment
in an ocean of thought
before we fade
we will rearrange
tiny gods
collect the past
time’s secrets held
in luminescent grasp
absorb us
into your dreams
the absolute
May 3, 2009 on 5:42 pm | In futurism, music, extropy | No CommentsAnother new track from the as yet untitled Extropy double album due later this year (before October if all goes well!) I’ve enjoyed posting some of it ahead of the release so you never know, I might just continue to let a few slip out here and there… click the image to download.
the absolute
dim arc lights flex and glitter
sleep fails in the flux and flicker
fragments of decaying suns
scattered in the sky
burning out in slow repose
bleeding photons as they die
and i will sleep tonight
and i will make this right
the hungry ghosts are let out to feed
radio bursts screaming in my brain and the deed
the deed
is
done

“Aura” - New Extropy track
March 14, 2009 on 2:35 pm | In futurism, music, extropy | No CommentsThis was supposed to be the first public glimpse of the new extropy record, so even though most of you have probably already heard “depths” (which in some ways is a mirror opposite), this is the one I’m really excited to introduce… (click the title to download)
Aura
the universe
is more thought
than machine
geometry in parabolic dreams
histories computed
and drawn in lines
empyrean madness
in elaborate design
the future shifts with the wings of butterflies
prophets and tyrants brought down by the wind
and
when you awake
from this ghostly sleep
the winter inside you
past days behind you
drawn out like a wave
cold, cold oceans away
silver crests under moonlight
sing in radiation
of icy stars
and information
your gravity
magnetic machinery
aura, we loved you
and with empathy made you
the air shifts
your arms flit like butterflies
forever orbiting
like satellites
your memory is a black hole
that spans
a thousand years
across the sky
the emptiness taunts you
the failure still haunts you
and threatens to draw you in
to draw you in
The long view…
October 21, 2008 on 9:28 pm | In futurism, economics, fucking americans, politics, world, environment | No CommentsGeorge Monbiot is usually right on… and this is no exception. I’ve always wondered if this development of institutional short term thinking in the populace, while nurtured by corporate powers intent on increasing profit with little regard for the future impact, grew teeth during the cold war era, as a result if the always impending doom of nuclear holocaust. When one expects annihilation at any moment the future is a distant unlikely place. Combined with the decreasing attention spans afforded by TV, the rapid technological change which seems to render visions of future life incomprehensible in a few short years, and you have a population incapable of long term planning. Good article… it would make a great late night debate…
hyperpolitics and the end of liberalism
August 9, 2008 on 9:48 pm | In futurism, science, politics | No CommentsThis is a fascinating article about how the social networks of the 21st century have changed, and are changing the course of the future. Beware… it might give you a little hope…

a good idea
July 22, 2008 on 5:54 am | In economics, futurism, politics, world, environment | No CommentsWow… a well-reasoned, detailed plan for how we might (just maybe), if we work together, save the world from (and for) ourselves. These are not new ideas necessarily but the time is right. I just hope someone is paying attention. A Green New Deal
Ghost stories…
February 25, 2008 on 9:00 pm | In religion, economics, futurism, politics | No CommentsI’ve been reading Richard Dawkins lately so there is some resonance with James Carroll in regard to the psychology of religion being similar to the reverence the US establishment pays the military. It’s a good read and a great analogy.“That such investment only makes the planet more dangerous matters little, since the feeling of security, rather than actual security, is the goal of the entire project.”
