I’m sorry… forgive me but this is just hilarious.

suburban nightmare

In Spring of 2006 April and I briefly considered buying a home, but here in Northern California the prices seemed outrageous… I just couldn’t make sense of the numbers, and it seemed like we always got less home than what we already had renting. After doing some research on the internet I started to see what appeared to me to be very clear evidence of a bubble that was about to pop. I mentioned this to my Realtor who laughed and said I was just a “nervous first time buyer” and that “the Prices will never go down in California”. Two years later and here we are… Sonoma County real estate has lost approximately 15-20% value, and every other house around here has a for sale sign. Some have been empty for months. Others have just given up and taken down the sign because they can’t get out. I can’t help but think what might have been had I tried some of the Kool-Aid. Who knows where I’d be right now? In a house I couldn’t afford, barely hanging on? There’s a lot of anger surrounding the sub-prime crisis, and people feel betrayed… and while this is true to a point, the evidence was there a long time ago… it’s just that no one wanted to believe it. And so, here we are. The peak oil situation is the same… the evidence is clear, things are starting down that slope, but no one wants to accept it. We are a society skilled in denial.

And so, whether anyone is reading this, or whether I am speaking to the trees… I’m just going to continue my observations… to chronicle the fall of the American Empire in all it’s dirty, prozac-gilt, TV zombified glory.

a discussion on Oil

I disagree with the fundamentals of this article… Bush’s responsibility for the current Oil situation lie more in his destruction of the value of the dollar than in any saber-rattling foreign policy. However.. you will find some very insightful and informative comment below the article… which is why I am posting it here.
